I have one of my longest friends coming to stay this weekend. I will be giving him a stack of Cocteau Twins 12”s that I bought to increase my knowledge of the band, but honestly I find the production (or maybe the pressing) really “soupy” instead of “crisp clear and crystalline” like I was expecting. I am also giving him a spare DJ mixer so he can play, and to thank me he is taking me to #ResidentRecords to buy me music. I am going to get #FloatingPoints for sure https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KMbj-3IkMxg
if you have any recommendations for similar stuff that will turn me on and turn me out please share them with me. I like #Clark and #Apparat, #PhillipGlass and #LFO, #TransparentSound, #Sansibar, #AceMo, #BlackDog, #DanielBrandt, #EllenAlien, #KellyLeeOwens you get the picture.
thanks to @ProjectFearlessness I remembered I need to get a copy of this amazing LP by #HieroglyphicBeing https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZZxAzt31RZE
@bleepbloop
That's an even better call. It's like U.R. meets Sun Ra. I'd not come across this as I was too busy being old!
@ProjectFearlessness perfect summary of their music. Apparently when they started off there was kickback from some journalists and producers because it was so weird. I am fully here for that kind of weirdness and I love it. It is like #TheBlackDog when they were on A.R.T.
@bleepbloop
I usually ignore music journalists unless they say something is too weird, and then I'm there.
I remember the reviews of Aphex Twins Ambient Works Vol.2 Look where it is 30 years later -the Tate Modern.
This is an interesting but long article about it that looks at reviews, among many other things.
@ProjectFearlessness here’s my SAWII story. all true https://ravenation.club/@bleepbloop/113316623156818317
@bleepbloop i don’t even know where to begin here skipping the classics, in that vein you might also like brainwaltzera, principles of geometry, max cooper, nathan fake, third son, james shinra, emeralds/steve hauschildt, to start…
@bleepbloop there’s also plenty to discover on https://musicforprogramming.net
@unknown8bit i love that. episode 6 Gods of The New Age if i recall
@bleepbloop roel funcken also has a lot of good mixes, but i couldn’t find the ones i was looking for
@unknown8bit i honestly nearly did a mix for musicforprogramming but my choices were too mainstream and i lost confidence at the last minute. my ambient style was more like this (probably from about 2003) https://www.mixcloud.com/bloopington/episode1-chilled-electro/
@bleepbloop oh nice, i will have to check it out. i’m often hesitant to recommend anything for fear of being too obvious plus i don’t keep up with music like i used to
@unknown8bit same. it’s more difficult than ever to follow music in the modern world even though it should be more simple. i liked wearing shoe leather out walking from shop to shop and building relationship with staff to get access to to the top tunes if they were limited releases. now I get overwhelmed by the volume of music there is and kind of don’t invest the listening time each release deserves. my lifestyle doesn’t/can’t support it either.
@bleepbloop i feel this!
@unknown8bit thanks i have Nathan Fake “Charlie’s House” ill checkout the rest. i got my friend to buy me the new Floating Points LP
@bleepbloop that birth4000 tho
@unknown8bit oh gosh yes. That hits. Hard.
